Yardsigns: What Do You Promote in Your Heart?
yard
A yardsign is more than just a piece of plastic staked into the ground; it’s a reflection of what you promote in your heart. In a world spinning with division, where polarization grows deeper by the day, your yardsign — visible or invisible — says something about who you are, what you believe, and where you stand. But does it signal empathy? Does it signal hate? Does it convey indifference? Does it, perhaps, scream, "I just don’t give a damn"?
These signals are not simply about what we choose to plant in the dirt outside our homes, but what we carry within us. Yardsigns have become symbols in this cultural battleground, telling the world what values we hold close. Some of us choose messages of love, acceptance, and inclusion. Others may choose messages of exclusion, fear, or silence, which speaks just as loudly.
But the real question is this: What does your internal yardsign say? Do you wear compassion, generosity, and care for others proudly, or do you let complacency take root? The signs in our hearts either build bridges or raise barriers. They reveal our intentions and expose our truths, whether we like it or not.
In today’s environment, where values are constantly under scrutiny, your internal yardsign speaks louder than any physical one. It reflects your empathy, your biases, or your apathy. It’s easy to plant a sign of righteousness in your yard, but much harder to cultivate those values in your heart. As the world turns, what will your yardsign reveal or hide? What message will it promote when words fade, and only actions remain?
Each day we have the opportunity to rewrite our sign, to stand for something meaningful, or to remain silent, letting the winds of division or unity blow through our souls. So, ask yourself: What does your sign say, and more importantly, what do you want it to say?
